Between The Pages | May 2024 Reads & Recommendations

Alright, bookworms, gather ’round! For my May reading wrap-up…though, and a sheepish apology. It’s a shorter one this month.

May turned into a whirlwind of activity, with projects keeping me on my toes and a delightful (but time-consuming!) craft vendor fair with my beaded pen and keychain creations. You can see one of my new ventures HERE!!

While my TBR pile is smuggingly looking at me, I did manage to squeeze in a couple of fantastic reads that I have to share with you. So, without further ado, let’s dive into those two gems.

Whose Waves These Are By Amanda Dykes

“Whose Waves These Are” by Amanda Dykes is a captivating, multi-generational story that intertwines the lives of a once-unknown uncle, a grieving fisherman, and a modern-day woman. The novel is set in a picturesque seaside town in England, and it beautifully weaves together themes of love, loss, and redemption. As the main characters navigate their struggles, they uncover a connection that spans decades, ultimately leading to healing and hope. It Started With a poem in a local newspaper asking for rocks. This poignant tale delves into the power of family, community, and the enduring impact of love across time. Amanda Dykes skillfully crafts a heartfelt narrative that will resonate with readers long after they’ve turned the final page.

Shout out to Barbara for the recommendation. It was worth the read.

  1. I’m glad you liked Whose Waves These Are! I had not heard of the second book or author, but they sound interesting. I’m currently reading Everything Sad Is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri because I’ve heard it highly praised by a number of people. It’s taking a while to get into–I’m not a big fan of stream-of-consciousness writing. But I am persevering. I’m also listening to The British Booksellers by Kristy Cambron, which jumps back and forth between the main characters in WWI and WWII. It feels a little disjointed with the back and forth, but the story is good.

    1. I just looked up “Mildred Budge in Cloverdale” by Daphne Simpkins on Amazon, and it’s free for both the Kindle and audiobook version just now. So I got them both!

  2. Pinning! I love good book recommendations. And congratulations on your book, too, Paula! That’s wonderful. Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #39 linkup! Hope to see you next week for #40. 🙂

  3. I found your delightful blog through April Harris’ linkup and so glad I found a fellow book-lover. I will link my May reads! I have had Whose Waves These Are on my goodreads to-read list for awhile now and I couldn’t remember the plot, who recommended it to me, or why it struck out to me as a book I should read. So, I am glad I found your review because now I realize it really would be a book I likely would enjoy! Looking forward to perusing more of your blog to check out more book reviews!
